At Victoria Park Primary School, teachers plan using the Western Australian Curriculum for Mathematics. We draw on the proficiency strands of understanding, fluency, problem-solving and reasoning to support students to make strong progress and achieve highly through purposeful, engaging mathematical learning experiences.

As a whole school priority, problem-solving and reasoning strategies are explicitly taught using the Gradual Release of Responsibility model (I do… we do… you do) and the UPAC process (Understand, Plan, Answer, Check). Teachers use a concrete, pictorial and abstract approach when introducing problem-solving and new concepts.

Victoria Park Primary School follows the PR1ME Mathematics program to support teaching and learning. This explicit instruction approach helps all students achieve their full potential, and teachers differentiate the curriculum to support every student’s learning needs.
