Moving to Secondary School

The move from primary to secondary school is an important time in every child’s life. It’s a time of big changes in their personal development, education and life.

The local feeder high school for Victoria Park PS students is Kent St Senior High School

Transition Programs

We work very closely with our local high school to make transition easier. Our transition program includes:

  • secondary school talks at primary schools
  • Year 6 visits to secondary schools

Orientation Days

As part of the transition from Year 6 to Year 7, students will have the opportunity to attend an Orientation Day at your chosen High School.  At the orientation day, your child will:

  • tour the school
  • meet teachers and ask questions
  • find out about the dress code
  • learn what they will be doing in their first year
  • meet other students

Gifted and Talented

Application and selection processes are managed centrally by the Department of Education. Gifted and Talented programs are offered at 22 secondary schools with an online program available to WA country students.  Programs include mathematics, science, humanities, languages, dance, drama, music, music theatre and visual arts.

Many programs are linked to sporting and industry bodies and training organisations, allowing children to gain industry recognised qualifications.
